Luke's Room

When we bought our house, we could smell a faint smoke smell (especially in Luke's room). Apparently the people who lived here before were smokers, and I wonder if Luke's room was the designated smoking room. :) For the last 3 months Luke had been coughing really bad and I've been having an air purifier run in his room. The blades on the air purifier were constantly collecting black gunk and the filters had pure black powder on them. I know I always think the worst, but if that's what is collecting on the fans, what is collecting in his lungs? With all the dry, cold weather, I ended up putting a vaporizer in his room, and oh my goodness, it was awful. All that moisture brought out the smoke and it smelled like a smoking hotel room. Anyway, we have been wanting to redo the flooring ever since we moved, especially in Luke and Bekah's room. I'm sure that old brown stuff was from when the house was built. I got tired of the smell, and the poor kid must have been miserable with his cough, so I decided the carpet was going. John finally agreed, and we found a great deal on flooring.
I forgot to get a picture of "the before", but this is after we pulled up the flooring.

We let each of the kids help with painting the room.

John's hard work. :) I need to get more pictures of the finished project, soon I will hopefully post those! I really love the hard wood floor look, I think it has really opened up his small room. Next project, Bekah's room!! Oh, and Luke is no longer coughing! Poor kid! We should have done this months ago!
