Nauvoo

We feel so blessed to live so close to such incredible history. Nauvoo is in our temple district and is only 2 1/2 hours away. John got done early from work one Friday afternoon, so we decided on a whim to go. John took a turn to do a session, while I stayed out with the kids and did some touring. We went to a couple things like the bakery, and the visitors center, but what I was really trying to find was a park. (I felt a little guilty looking for a park, when some people would kill to visit such a historic place.) Here are the kids in the Relief Society Garden area. The kids had fun posing like all the statues (I remember doing that myself when I was young. :)
We decided to hang out and wait for the show that the missionaries put on called "Sunset on the Mississippi". It was so fun to watch. Before the show started they invited the kids to decorate hats and participate in the children's parade. They all waved flags and played instruments while they marched around the stage. Joey and Jacob had a fun time. (Adam was apparently "to cool" and Bekah wouldn't leave dads side...go figure.)
It was especially inspirational watching the older missionary couples and seeing the joy on their faces. They truly were enjoying themselves and were loving serving the Lord despite having to leave their loved ones behind at home. I'm sure they were missing their children and grandchildren, but you would never guess it watching them perform and having a wonderful time. I have to admit, when I heard the show was mainly the "older missionary couples" I had my doubts about how good it would be. But, I have to say it was an awesome show and I would definitely recommend to anyone to stay and watch it. So Fun!!!

We are having a ward activity this Saturday to go to Nauvoo and have a cookout and stay and watch the pagaent. I am so excited, can't wait!

Jon and I are dying to come back and see you . . . and visit Nauvoo again. Maybe we will make it over to Thatcher while you are back here! Exactly when will that be?
