The Pawlowski Family Spilunkers

The Maquoketa Caves are not far from where we live, so we thought we would check them out before the school year started. We had so much fun. Here are some of the pictures of our spilunking adventure.

Bekah decided she was going to collect sticks. She was so cute.

The boys had so much fun climbing up the rocks and trying to find any little caves they might be able to crawl into.

John and Joey went down into a cave that was a little hole going down into the ground. We kept yelling out to them to make sure they were okay. They said that was the best cave they had seen that day. (They were the only ones brave enough to go in.) Adam was worried about spiders and bats (it was sooo dark) and I was worried because it was so slippery. Besides, someone had to watch the others. :)

There were other caves we were all able to go into
Luke the lil' spilunker

There were soooo many stairs. We let Joey lead the way for most of our hike, and who knows where he took us. Our little hike turned out to be a big hike. The kids were worried we lost our way. We were all so exhausted and hungry and sweaty (it was so humid) and we didn't really come prepared. (no water or food. Remember it was going to be a little hike) Then we got to the stairs. There was only one way back to the car, where our picnic waited, up.... Poor John had to be so tired, he carried both Luke and Bekah most of the way throughout the hike and the stairs. What a nice dad (and husband).

We made it and survived!!!! The kids can't wait to go back. We had so much fun. Our kids are quite the little Geologists, they loved it (must run in the family....)
